"I use paper as my medium so that I can explore how it works as a material and what the limits are for its use. The most interesting thing to me about it is the contrast that something so inherently delicate can become incredibly strong if it is treated a certain way—a sheet on its own will tear or bend, but when it’s layered or rolled it becomes something durable.

Nature and repetition are the themes that are in most of the work I make as an artist. The natural world is something to wonder at and be viewed with respect, but also something that can be fun and enjoyed. Some work may take days or weeks to finish and is layer upon layer of hand cut pieces. The intricacy is very much an echo of what my mental processes are like. I am meticulous and repetitive, paying attention to small details and purposefully choosing methods that will be time consuming—monotonous tasks are soothing to me.

There is a quote from Rogan Brown that I think sums up my work well. “Paper, my chosen material, embodies the paradoxical qualities that we see in nature: its fragility and durability, its strength and delicacy; there is a pleasing poetic symmetry in taking this material that was cut from the forest and by cutting and transforming it once again returning it to its origins."
